Children placed at Owlswick are often the subjects of Care Orders, or require help and support on a sustained basis. The in-house school is also able to provide 38-week placements for children with special educational needs (SEN). Individual assessments and short-term help and advice can also be provided. Owlswick offers competitive fees according to the level of service required. History Owlswick was established in 1981, and specialises in providing holistic support and encouragement for children with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Emotional and Behavioural Disorders (EBD), Social Disorders (EBSD), and caters for children with mild Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Location The house and school are set in beautiful surroundings in extensive grounds (three acres), and the premises are located within easy reach of the County Town of Lewes and City of Brighton, with excellent road and rail links to all parts of the South East of England. Referrals The children at Owlswick are placed either by Local Authorities throughout the South East of England, or by private referrals. Owlswick welcomes referrals from all parts of the UK, and will consider each referral individually and in detail. Our Aim Each child is encouraged to develop as soon as possible to the stage at which he or she is ready to be re-integrated into mainstream education and able to live a fulfilled life in his or her local community. Independence training is therefore an important feature of the overall provision at Owlswick. The Right Environment The atmosphere in the home and school is friendly, calm, safe and secure, with clear structures in place and a high ratio of professional staff to meet specific needs in all aspects of school and home life. Individuals are nurtured, and team and group participation is encouraged at all levels. Many different opportunities in the home and local community are provided to help each child reach his or her full potential. |
